Them Crooked Vultures at Metro…and a huge Lolla recap coming soon.
Well that was a fun weekend. We are all made of sweat.
That picture above is from the debut show of Them Crooked Vultures, the now much discussed project of Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones. They played for a shade over an hour with all original material and no encore.
For those who paid the $50, it was well worth the price of admission. The material while unfamiliar to everyone was extremely well performed and without surprise, well received. The best way to describe the feeling in the air was, “I’m not sure exactly what this is, but I can tell it’s special.” At certain moments it was a catchy drum fill by Grohl, or an interesting melodic theme repeated by Homme and Jones. It was difficult to qualify the songs, but just like meeting a new person, it’s not exactly easy to discern all of their qualities, but you can tell what you like about them. It was a great first impression.
Little banter as well. No one was complaining.
A whole swath of Lollapalooza recap material ahead. Some great K&A interviews with The Killers, SSPU, KOL, and some other acronym band I can’t remember.
Now drink some water and get some sleep.
[I can’t believe I didn’t mention this. They were on-time. How rebellious is that?]
